Conversations with non-Player characters (NPC) is fundamental to the game and use a Chat application with the A.I system. To start a conversation, use the T followed by the direction arrow where the NPC is you want to talk to. The chat window will appear.
There is guidance to NPCs to stay in character, for example they cannot join your party and will often remind you of that fact. NPCs are also provided guidance to give you information about quest items if they know of any.
If the character is a merchant, you will see a $ button appear after your first interaction with the character, where you can then purchase items from that character.
You can also attempt to give items to a character using the treasure chest icon in the chat window. This can be useful to complete quest items.
Some monsters can be involved in conversation, and in some cases, you can try to convert them to your side to get quest items, but don’t count on it.
If the option “Auto Generate NPC Images” is turned on, then when a conversation starts with an NPC an image will be generated in the background using DALLE. If you don’t like the image returned you can regenerate it in the chat window.
It’s a good idea to chat with Lords in the keeps getting a lay of the land and general quest items as they know the townsfolk. Tavern owners also are privy of a lot of information.
Looks for quest, if a quest if offered a good response is “I accept the quest” in which case if there is a real quest item it will be assigned to you. You can also ask NPC for items you suspect they might have.
Although controls are in place for the AI representing the NPCs to stay in character, you can get them to go off script, but what’s the fun in that. Always start the conversation with a simple Hi as this gets background and memory information into the NPC.
You must exit a conversation to continue using the maps. You can exit by clicking the exit conversation button or typically by saying “Bye”.

Your party is made up of three characters, a Fighter, Wizard and Paladin. When you create a new party, you have some customization options but will always have these three characters in your party.
When conversing with other NPCs you are chatting as a party. The only time the individual Fighter, Wizard or Paladin character comes into play is to cast a spell or in battle. As a result, party objects such as gold and quest items are stored in the party inventory system.
Your selected party members are also shown in the Party window. This rotates to the part members whose turn it is in combat, but you can also use it to prepare a spell and cast the spell. The spell is always cast by the active party member in the Party window.
